Heritage & History

National Famine Museum
Strokestown Park House is the location of the National Famine Museum. The property is operated by the Irish Heritage Trust.
Workhouse
On the Cloonslanor loop of the Strokestown Trail Walk, you will visit the site of the former Strokestown Work House. Information is posted at the site.
Sliabh Bawn
In 1950, when the Holy Year Cross was raised onto the top of Sliabh Bawn, skeletal remains were uncovered. This suggests that a passage grave once sat atop the hill.
Rathcroghan
Rathcroghan Visitor Centre is located in the medieval village of Tulsk, within the royal complex of Cruachan, the oldest and largest unexcavated Royal complex in Europe. It is located 7 kilometres west of Strokestown.
Elphin Mill
At Elphin Windmill (approximately 9 kilometres north of Strokestown) you will find a fully restored 18th-century tower mill. This is a rare piece of Irish industrial architectural heritage and is, possibly, the oldest operational windmill in Ireland.
Genealogy Centre
County Roscommon's Genealogy Centre is located at St. John's Church, the former Church of Ireland church, on Church Street.
