Strokestown Christmas Market
HAVE A VERY STROKESTOWN CHRISTMAS

Friday 29th November 2019 was a HUGE date for everyone in Strokestown ... it was the grand opening of what was an AMAZING three weekends of seasonal fun, food and festivities ... the inaugural STROKESTOWN CHRISTMAS STREET MARKET.

Over this period (29/11 - 1/12, 6/12 - 8/12 and 13/12 - 15/12) Bawn Street in Strokestown was THE PLACE TO BE with traditional, custom-made, wooden Market chalets, numerous gazebos and a large marquee providing you with more Christmas spirit, gifts, foods, and entertainment than you’ll ever need!!

The Grand Opening Night (Friday 29th November) was an evening of fun and celebrations not to be missed. Coinciding with Late, Late Toy Show night, from 4pm until 9pm there was entertainment for ALL THE FAMILY including, from 7pm, one lucky child (the winner of the School Christmas Art Competition) pressing the button to LIGHT UP STROKESTOWN.

And … Strokestown was also thinking of others … there was a drop-off point supporting the HOPE FOR THE HOMELESS charity … see https://www.facebook.com/groups/327478404694165/ …

AND … the rumours were true ... there was a visit from a VERY SPECIAL FESTIVE GUEST!!

ALL OTHER Market days ran from 2pm until 6pm.

Strokestown Christmas Market is the largest street market of its kind in County Roscommon and is part of ongoing Strokestown Town Team plans to reinstate, reinvigorate and restore community infrastructure and business.

Using funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, and working alongside Roscommon County Council, the Town Team is working to combine existing architectural heritage (including the widest street thoroughfare outside of Dublin) with the modern needs of what is already a beautiful tourist attraction.

For Strokestown Town Team what started as a small local project has expanded into a labour of love bringing the whole community together. Teams of people have worked into the early hours transforming Strokestown with streetscape Christmas lighting, the central focus being a real Christmas tree. In addition to local support the Town Team have been blown away by the help given to them by companies across Ireland.

Over coming years Strokestown Christmas Market will bring together a range of national vendors and local community traders, all offering seasonally themed gifts and food alongside ideas for the Christmas period. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to ‘SHOP LOCAL’ and find goods and crafts not necessarily available online or in national and international chains.

The 2019 Market was be a feast to the eyes (and noses!!) with goods, crafts and food from:

Bambrew Eco-friendly gifts / Urban Gifts / Clarriets jewellery / Forever Living / ISPCA / Ivy Rose Floral Designs /

Just For You knitwear / Moon Fern crafts / Strokestown Women’s Shed / Cobble Lane crafts /

Jacqueline Dowd jewellery / Strokestown Community Playschool / Banahan crafts / Andrea McGuinness crafts /

C & M jewels / The Bow Box / Crazy Snails crafts / Strokestown Ladies GAA / Scoil Mhuire Transition Year students /

GG’s Crochet / Catch The Light glass gifts / Luna accessories / Heal Me Holistics / The Weed Solution hemp gifts /

Isabelle’s Kitchen Delights / KAFFA coffee / Megabites Cupz & Crepes / Popping Mad popcorn / May Murray Bakery /

Lough Owel Organic Farms / Ray’s Jams / Little Cheesecake Shop

... there’s was really no reason that visitors weren't able to find something for that person who is always difficult to buy for!

In addition our wonderful neighbourhood school students and teachers worked in their own time to create a series of fantastic events and displays.

BUT … this was not just a Market … it was also a great place to meet with family and friends, be entertained and really get into the Christmas spirit!!

Across the three weekends, as part of an exciting programme, on offer was:

  • Christmas Carols from our local Primary School pupils;

  • A ‘Seniors Day’ celebrating our wonderful older community who have done so much for Strokestown;

  • A ‘Ladies Day’ giving hints for the party season and tips for your Christmas Day feast;

  • Demonstrations by our amazing Emergency Services;

  • An opportunity to have a photo with the Nestor Cup;

  • Festive music … a Children’s Games area … Face Painting … and great family photo opportunities.

Why go to Galway, Dublin, or Belfast when this is on your own doorstep! Put all of these dates in your future diary for a fantastic Christmas Family Day out and tell your friends …we know you will return again.

FREE PARKING (on Church Street) … CHRISTMAS LIGHTS … FESTIVE FOOD & GIFTS … AND … Strokestown’s fabulous shops, bars, history and friendly welcome … what more can you ask for!!

‘Tis the season to be jolly … come and join in with a VERY STROKESTOWN CHRISTMAS!!
