Happy 4th of July to all of our American friends from STROKESTOWN TOWN TEAM 😀
Come and visit us and find your history ... we’d love to see you 😁
On Saturday 4th July 2020 a grand battle is taking place ... Eugene -v- Sliabh Bawn!!
Eugene Murphy, Senator for Roscommon & Galway is raising funds in a unique way ...
In his own words ...
"... I am set to embark on a novel fundraising event this July by attempting to walk 10km backwards across Sliabh Bawn all in aid of local charities. Backstepping 10km across Sliabh Bawn mountain outside Strokestown is no easy feat but I am taking on this novel task as a fundraiser for two charities close to my heart ... The Hub Community Café in Strokestown and the East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support Centre in Ballinasloe.
We have all heard of backstabbing in politics- well this is a new one with backstepping across a mountain, but it’s all in good jest and in aid of two local charities.
I know it might sound a little wacky walking 10 km backwards across Sliabh Bawn but I decided to come up with a novel fundraiser to help some local charities as we all know that charities have been very badly hit due to Covid 19 and they have little or no income from fundraising during these difficult times.
I have been training hard every day and while I do get some strange looks from other walkers along the way when I explain what I am doing they are all very supportive.
The Hub Café in Strokestown is a community-owned social enterprise initiative which was established in 2012 for people with intellectual disabilities. There are currently 17 young adults working in the Hub and they also offer training to young adults in need of support. Audrey and all the team at The Hub in Strokestown really do fantastic work for young people with intellectual disabilities and I wanted to help support them in whatever way I can.
The East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support Centre in Ballinasloe. formed in 2012, is a non-profit charitable organisation which provides a network of psychological, emotional, and practical support for those diagnosed with cancer. Jackie Daly and all the volunteers at the East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support Centre are a fantastic group and the number of people attending weekly has now reached over 200. All the support they offer is free of charge. They have also become a member of the European Cancer Patient Coalition (ECPC) which gives them a political and medical voice in Europe and they provide a full-time drop in centre as well as a 24 hour phone service.
An online fundraising platform has been set up on ifundraise.ie at the following link: https://www.ifundraise.ie/…/11387885_eugene--murphy--s-page…
While the event is taking place on Saturday, July 4th, the fundraising link will be in place for a few months so people can donate at any time.
It’s definitely a case of having eyes in the back of your head, I hope people from all over the country will consider making a donation for these two very worthy causes ..."

Enchanted Croi Theatre is now online!!
Our aim originally was to tour small theatres, schools and other venues and, following recent CoVid challenges, the team has decided to go back to some educational video methods that have been positive and successful in the past.
Enchanted Croi will also now be offering online Theatre, Drama, and teaching English through theatre lessons. If anyone is interested please contact us via the links below.
We will also be offering storytelling videos shortly ... mainly for children, but also adults if they feel like they need some escape through Faerie tales.
We will begin making videos that you may enjoy with a link to make donations if you feel.
The classes are € 20e per hour ... so if you have 4 children in different houses then it works out to be very reasonable.
If you are interested in this for your children please email: email@example.com or via Facebook.
Please see my professional background through my acting website and the new company site: https://enchantedcroi.ie/
The Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) is a commitment of €1 billion by government to be invested in rural Ireland over the period 2019 to 2027.
The purpose of the fund is to support job creation in rural areas, address de-population of rural communities and support improvements in our towns and villages with a population of less than 10,000, and outlying areas.
Initial funding of €315 million has been allocated to the fund on a phased basis over the period 2019 to 2022.
Strokestown Town Team, in association with Roscommon County Council, is bidding for RRDF funding and will be displaying proposals to the community on Wednesday 17th June 2020, from 2pm until 4pm, in the Community Centre ... please come along and see what's being planned for the future of our town.

In partnership with RTÉ and Local Authorities, the Creative Ireland Programme is urging children and young people to answer the call, to get creative at home and be ready to showcase their creative talents on Saturday 13th June.
We have developed a number of creative, cultural and engaging “calls to action” which children, young people – indeed entire families – can create in their own homes and gardens on Saturday 13th June.
Some of the highlights will be:
