The lecture will take place at 8.30 p.m. on THURSDAY, 13th JUNE, 2019, in The Percy French Hotel ... There will be no charge on the door for this lecture, so feel free to bring friends and as the lecture will be held in the ballroom there will be lots of space.
The lecture is entitled, ‘Éamon De Valera – A Personal Perspective’ ... Éamon Ó Cuiv is the grandson of Fianna Fáil founder and former Taoiseach and President of Ireland, Éamon De Valera. Mr. Ó Cuiv synopsises his lecture, “My talk will be a historical talk on Éamon De Valera, but it will be flavoured by the perspective of a family member. I was 25 years of age when he died and therefore I knew him well. Furthermore, I would have heard a lot about him from my Mother, who died in 2012 and was full of fascinating insights into him”.
Six childcare providers across Roscommon and East Galway have received capital funding of €214,807 to create more places for under 3s, school age children and for fire safety improvements.
The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr Katherine Zappone, has announced a total national allocation of €6.25m to create an additional 3,600 childcare places through capital funding for providers of Early Years and School Age Childcare services.
The successful local applications included Strokestown Community Playschool and Afterschool who were awarded €19,905 to provide new places for school age children ... CONGRATULATIONS!!
In October 2018, following submission of a funding bid by STROKESTOWN TOWN TEAM, it was announced that €80,000 had been awarded, by the Minister for Rural & Community Development, as part of the 2018 Town & Village Renewal national strategy.
These monies are to be used to make major town enhancements to Strokestown (as detailed in the attached Project Plan) in three areas:
(1) refurbishment of building frontages on several key structures in the town;
(2) facilitating a community ‘Market Square’, to include a Christmas Market;
(3) permanent, flexible, lighting of Strokestown Park House Gates.
In addition to the funding award our Town Team has arranged for an additional €20,000 to be made available to this scheme.
Following a series of meetings the Town Team is now in a position to update you on progress with this major piece of work:
(1) TOWN REFURBISHMENT:
An independent assessment, NOT involving members of Strokestown Town Team, has been completed identifying around 30 suitable properties for redecoration ... letters have been sent to property owners to confirm whether this work is required ... Responses are required by 22/06/19 following which our colleagues at Roscommon County Council will formally tender for completion of this work;
(2) MARKET SQUARE / CHRISTMAS MARKET:
Specific requirements (i.e. obtaining quotes for the provision of suitable wooden chalets, identification of potential stall-holders, associated events) are being finalised;
(3) BAWN GATES LIGHTING:
Potential suppliers of the required services are being contacted and are being invited to quote to complete this work.
The Town Team will keep you updated as work progresses. If you have any queries please speak with any Team member or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
This is GREAT NEWS for Strokestown and the Town Team hopes that everyone will support the work being done.
STROKESTOWN TOWN TEAM
Congratulations to our fantastic girls soccer team who were runners up in the Roscommon primary 6 a side County A final today.
The girls were 1 goal down at half time and were excellent in the 2nd half and deservedly equalised to bring the game to extra time.
Nothing could separate the two teams and the game ended in a draw ... the result had to be decided with a penalty shoot out.
We've been notified that TIDY TOWNS judges will be in Strokestown on next Monday (10th June).
The hard-working local Committee has been making the town look great ... YOU CAN HELP ...

Strokestown is a great place to live ... working together, we can show this to the judges (and everyone else that visits us).
