county development plan 2022 - 2028

28/2/2021

County Development Plan
Your Plan, Your County, Your Future

Roscommon County Council sought to be innovative in increasing engagement with the County Development Plan and overall make it more accessible to members of the community.

The pre-draft Public Consultation on the new County Development Plan 2022-2028 closed on 31st July 2020. The Roscommon County Council team overcame some challenging COVID-19 restrictions to ensure public engagement. Online surveys, schools pack and explainer videos were some of the innovative ways used to develop engagement on the County Development Plan (CDP).  The CDP has its own unique identity that includes a new logo, branding and an online presence through the purpose built Development Plan website.

There were six webinars with town teams and an extensive social media campaign to promote the plan and seek input. An art competition for children took place and the winner is due to be announced.  Roscommon was the first Local Authority to directly attract school children to get involved in the CDP process with the Schools Pack. 88 submissions were received, four times what was received for the last County Development Plan and 203 online surveys were also completed.

The draft is expected in Mid-February 2021.

Keep up to date with the development of the plan by visiting www.rosdevplan.ie. Follow us on Twitter or on our Facebook page.

winter birds & bees

Winter Gardening
We need to talk about the birds & the bees - They need your help!

It’s Winter and you might be dying to tidy up and make your garden look neat, but perhaps you could leave a wild corner for nature?

✔️Make a log pile or leave a heap of fallen leaves, as a home for hedgehogs and insects. Leave some Bramble and Ivy - their flowers feed our bees and their berries feed our birds and mammals.

So please think of the birds & the bees!

Childhood Cancer Ireland fundraiser
Three Scoil Mhuire Strokestown TY students who have combined a love of agricultural machinery with their transition year student enterprise programme are raising money for @childhoodcancerire, a national childhood cancer charity.

They have been making the most of our latest lockdown by restoring a 1956 Ferguson 20 tractor.

Over the last few weeks they have stripped the old tired tractor down to the bare chassis, sandblasted every inch restoring each original part,  sourcing the parts and paint country wide. They are currently learning the art of a complete respray of this treasured tractor.

The restored vintage tractor will be raffled for the charity on 8th of January 2021.

Buy your raffle ticket TODAY by clicking HERE.

Supporting our Communities
Supporting our Communities is a support network of three people from Strokestown who are doing amazing work together to raise awareness of the ever-increasing problem of food poverty.

They look after families in our areas every week with food parcels among other things.

They are completely voluntary with their time, and their efforts to support families rely heavily on the donations of the public so they can help families survive.

Santa's drive-thru grotto

13/12/2020

The first weekend of Strokestown's Drive Thru Santa's Grotto was a fantastic experience for all involved.

Over 150 children visited us on the grounds of Strokestown Park House and got to see our magical winter wonderland and see the elves working hard making toys and wrapping presents. There was singing and dancing, a visit from Pingui the penguin and of course great fun with Santa and Mrs Claus in their sitting room.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to visit us and to all our amazing volunteers who were so enthusiastic and energetic and really helped make the event a success.

We look forward to welcoming all those who have booked in next week.
