In recent years we have seen the reopening of two B&Bs and a public house, in addition to a hot food outlet, two beauty parlours and two antique-style businesses.
These have added to a fantastic retail mix including national supermarkets, a variety of food outlets, a number of bars, quality floral designer/florist, award-winning health food store, extensive hardware store, launderette, hotel and the national HQ of Westward Scania to name a few.
Building on the work of SCDA (Strokestown Community Development Association), especially the development of our community playground, Strokestown Town Team is working diligently to improve the town infrastructure making working here even more attractive!!
Strokestown is a great place to start a business, and an even better place to grow an existing business. To see what's already available in the town look through our extensive BUSINESS directory
Community spirit in everyday life ... whether you visit us for the day, or come to join us on a more permanent basis.
Did you know? ... There are more festivals per head of capita in Strokestown annually than any other town in Ireland !
These include a 150+ year-old Agricultural & Industrial show, International Poetry Festival, traditional Music Festival, Easter Parade, links into the historic Táin March, an amazing Christmas Market, stunning Christmas Lights and, for 2020, a brand-new Summer Solstice extravaganza!
We are the home of the National Famine Museum which attracts in excess of 60,000 visitors per annum and there are links developing with EPIC (Irish immigration Museum) in Dublin to develop the Irish Camino (National Famine Way) between Dublin and Strokestown, along the Royal Canal.
Strokestown Town Team has been awarded major funding (as part of the 2018 Town & Village Renewal scheme) to help restore the historic frontages of town buildings and develop further annual events/festivals over coming years.
There are over 30 voluntary groups operating in the locality and they all play a very important role in keeping Strokestown alive. For a town with a population of 800 and parish just over twice that size, Strokestown is on the up!
