Strokestown Community Development Association (SCDA) was formed in 1991 by a group of concerned citizens in the town and area to promote commercial and tourist life in the district. Over the years the Association has been involved in many projects to enhance the town and area for which it promotes continuous fundraising.
The SCDA office at Bawn Street was opened as a focal point for the Association’s activities and is also used by many other local voluntary organisations. In the winter season, computer and photography classes are available. The SCDA was the driving force behind the 2013 organisation of Strokestown's “The Gathering” Festival, in association with many other local organisations and individuals. “The Gathering” exemplified community activity and cohesion at its best which the association wishes to harness for the future. The Association is very appreciative of the hard work, voluntary effort and enthusiasm of the committee over the years and they can be justly proud of their achievements. Strokestown Town Team was formed as an initiative of national Government, in association with Roscommon County Council, to help communities like ours recover from the impact of the economic recession.
The Town Team is an ‘under-arching committee’ designed to support, not dictate. It's made up of people who live and work in, and around, Strokestown and is the direct link between our local stakeholders (Community Groups, Businesses etc.) and regional Government (i.e. Roscommon County Council, LEADER partnership, Local Enterprise Office etc.). This means the Town Team has an essential role in identifying ways to retain a strong community at the heart of a vibrant, and busy, Strokestown by ensuring that available regional/national funding is applied for (either directly by the Town Team or by supporting and helping local groups and businesses) and is used to benefit Strokestown AS A WHOLE. Town Team members come from all backgrounds. All of us have the same desire - to make Strokestown as good as it can be for those who live here and those who visit us. If you live in Strokestown, if you work in Strokestown, if you care about Strokestown PLEASE ATTEND MONTHLY MEETINGS Just one hour a month can make a huge difference.
