In 1950, when the Holy Year Cross was raised onto the top of Sliabh Bawn, skeletal remains were uncovered.

At Elphin Windmill (approximately 9 kilometres north of Strokestown) you will find a fully restored 18th-century tower mill.
This is a rare piece of Irish industrial architectural heritage and is, possibly, the oldest operational windmill in Ireland. |
